Employment opportunities within Silver Fern Farms often begin in the area of meat processing at 1 of our 16 plants.

Process workers are employed in a variety of jobs including shepherds, slaughterers, boners, trimmers, packers, pelt graders, freezer hands and general labourers. For people with ambition and aptitude there is enormous potential for career progression within the company.

We also employ students who simply want to earn some good money over the summer.

When a plant gets your application, they may contact you to arrange an interview, a pre-employment medical and a drug test. If your application is successful, you will be contacted to arrange a starting date. It is that simple.

Te Aroha

Stanley Road South, Te Aroha

Te Aroha is a rural town in the Thames Valley area, with a population of about four thousand people. With mountains and rivers nearby, it lends itself to an outdoor, open air lifestyle.

Our Te Aroha plant is our most modern plant, and processes beef. It employs about 350 staff in peak season.

Kennington

District Road, Invercargill

Our Kennington plant is just north of Invercargill, home to 50,000 people. On the doorstep of Stewart Island, Central Otago, Fiordland, and the Caitlans, there are endless outdoor opportunities, and a city large enough to boast all the perks of city life.

Our Kennington plant processes venison, and employs about fifty people in peak season.

Dargaville

Tuna Street, Dargaville

In the far north, the town of Dargaville sits on the Kauri Coast with a population of over four thousand people, with easy access to stunning beaches and ancient forests.

Silver Fern Farms’ Dargaville plant processes cattle, and employs about 300 staff in peak season.

Rotorua

Pururu Street, Rotorua

In the heart of one of the jewels in New Zealand’s tourism industry, is Rotorua, surrounded by lakes, forests, and mountains.

Our Rotorua plant processes venison, and employs about 45 people in the peak of the season.

Hawera

Tawhiti Road, Hawera

Hawera is the second biggest town in the Taranki region, with a population of 11,000. It is close to Mount Taranaki, surfing beaches, and New Plymouth.

Our Hawera plant processes beef cattle, and employs about 500 people in peak season.

Waitotara

Waiinu Beach Road, Waitotara

Waitotara is a small rural community in the Taranaki region, the town has beautiful parks and gardens, as well access to tramping, kayaking, fishing, and golf.

Our Waitotara Plant employs close to two hundred staff in peak season, processing sheep, calves, and occasionally goats.

Pacific

Rangitane Road, Whakatu, Hastings

In the heart of the Hawke’s Bay is Hastings, a short drive from our Pacific Plant. Hastings has about 70,000 people. As well as great beaches and many world class restaurants and cafes, the town offers tramping and hunting in the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges.

Our Pacific Plant processes beef, and employs about 550 people in peak season.

Takapau

Fraser Road, Takapau

Our Takapau plant is found south of Waipukurau, a town of 4,000 people in Central Hawke’s Bay. The town has many sporting facilities, and access to rivers and forests.

Takapau processes lamb and mutton, as well as packaging our retail products. About 700 staff are employed in the peak season.

Hokitika

Seaview Road, Hokitika

Hokitika is on the South Island’s West Coast, and has a population of 3500. Nestled between the Tasman Sea and the Southern Alps, the outdoor opportunities are endless. With a vibrant tourist industry, there are also a good mix of restaurants and cafes on offer.

Our Hokitika plant employs aboiut 110 people in peak season, and processes dairy cattle, calves, and deer.

Belfast

Factory Road, Belfast

Christchurch is the South Island’s biggest city, and has a mix of lifestyles on offer, with access to the South Island’s outdoors and all the perks of city life.

Our Belfast plant processes cattle, and employs about 340 people in peak season.

Pareora

The Avenue, Timaru

Our Pareora plant is near Timaru, the bustling hub of South Canterbury and home to about 50,000 people. Close to great fishing, surfing, skiing, and many other outdoor opportunities.

Our Pareora plant processes cattle, calves, and sheep, and employs close to 700 staff in peak season.

Finegand

Yorston Road, Balclutha

Just out of Balclutha is our Finegand plant, the largest in our network. The greater area of Balclutha is home to about 17,000 people, and is a central link to all parts of Otago, and at the mouth of the mighty Clutha River.

Finegand processes sheep and cattle, employing close to 1,000 people in peak season.

Waitane

Saleyard Road, Gore

Our Waitane plant is close to the town of Gore, in the Gore District, home to 13,000 people. As well as being the brown trout capital of the world, there are many other outdoor activities on offer, all under an hour’s drive from Invercargill.

Our Waitane plant processes lamb, mutton, and bobby calves, and employs about 270 staff in peak season.
